Principle Platform Engineer

The Opportunity

We aremodernisingthe core platforms that underpin our Managed Services business and building an Azure-firstmulticloudplatform that can scale across teamsclientsand services.

This is not a role for someone who has onlyoperatedwithinan already mature platform. We are looking for a Principal Platform Engineer who has helped design buildmoderniseor significantly uplift cloud environments from the ground up including the standards guardrailsautomationand operational patterns other teams depend on.

This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports but significant technical influence. You will set technical direction define reusable patterns guide engineeringteamsand create golden paths that allow teams to deliver quicklysafelyand consistently.

This role suits someone who stays hands-on thinks in platforms and is comfortable being the person teams turn to when the architecture gets complex

What YoullDo

• Lead the technical architecture of our Azure-first multi cloud platform.

• Design and modernize platform foundations including landing zones identity networking security governance observability automation and operational controls.

• Define standards reusable patterns and guardrails that engineering teams can build on.

• Create golden paths and self-service capabilities that reduce ticket dependency and improve delivery speed.

• Set direction for infrastructure as code and CI/CD with Terraform as a primary tool.

• Embed governancesecurityand cost controls as code aligned to the Azure Well-Architected Framework.

• Improve reliability through observability backup disaster recovery resiliencepatternsand clear RPO/RTO expectations.
  

• Work with operations and service management teams to ensure platforms are supportableobservableand operationally ready.
  

• Drive automation-first platform engineering throughIaCpolicy ascode runbookautomationand event-driven remediation.

• Partner with automation and AI teams to ensure the platform can support future AI-enabled and agentic workflows safely.

• Influence technical decisions across multiple teams without relying on formalauthority.

Whatwerelooking for:

• Strong production experience designingbuildingandoperatingAzure platforms at scale.

• Proven experience buildingmodernizingor significantly uplifting cloud platform environments not justoperatingwithin existing platforms.

• Deep knowledge of Azure landing zones management groups subscriptions networking Entra ID governance policy security loggingmonitoringand operational controls.

• Strong infrastructure as code experience ideally with Terraform.

• Experience creating reusable engineering patterns modules pipelinesstandardsor golden paths.

• Practical experience with CI/CD Git-basedworkflowsand automation.

• Strong understanding of cloud security identitysecretsmanagement segmentationcomplianceand secure-by-default design.

• Experience with observability reliability engineering backup disasterrecoveryand operational readiness.

• Good understanding of cloud cost management tagging policycontrolsand FinOps principles.

• Working knowledge of at least one other cloud platform such as AWS or GCP.

• Ability to influence architects engineers security teamsoperationsand product teams through strong technical judgement.
  

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience in managed services technology servicesoutsourcingor enterprise platform environments.

• Experience with Azure DevOps GitHub Actions Bicep PowerShell Python Kubernetes AKS containerplatformsor API gateways.

• Experience with Azure Monitor Log Analytics Sentinel Defender for Cloud Datadog Splunk or similar tooling.

• Experience with ServiceNow ITSM integration operational readiness change governance or service transition.

• Experience building internal developer platforms or platform-as-a-product capabilities.

• Experience with automation platforms such as Ansible Azure Automation ServiceNow Flow Designer Logic AppsRundeckor similar.

• Experience building platforms that enable automation AIOps self-healing event-drivenremediationor agentic workflows.
