Senior Consultant or Manager Actuarial Health and Human Services



The opportunity

As a Senior Consultant or Manager youll provide actuarial consulting to government and private clients with a particular focus on the health aged care disability and human service sectors. Your responsibilities will include managing projects and delivering results and strategic advice that help clients handle risk optimise performance and develop growth strategies.

This role can be located in either Canberra or Sydney.


Your key responsibilities

  • Forge strategic partnerships with a diverse range of clients making a significant impact in both the public and private sectors to enhance community wellbeing.
  • Collaborate across our broader practice including strategy transactions tax technology and risk professionals.
  • Engage in a variety of projects from designing system reforms policy design and evaluation system funding and costing analysis through to model validation and risk management.
  • Develop and implement actuarial models and methodologies analyse and interpret data to uncover critical insights for informed decision-making.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends regulatory and legislative changes and actively contribute to business thought leadership.
  • Champion continuous improvement and shape the next generation of processes tools and analytical approaches.


Skills and attributes for success

  • Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science Mathematics Statistics Finance or a related field. Completed or progressing towards a professional actuarial qualification (e.g. FIAA) with 2 to 8 years of professional experience in an actuarial and/or data analytics role. Experience with coding programming and AI/GenAI is highly valued.
  • Skills and Abilities: Proven actuarial analytical and problem-solving skills; strong quantitative abilities; proficiency with actuarial software and techniques using Excel SAS R and Python. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building and maintaining client relationships and the ability to present complex information clearly to non-specialists.
  • Industry Knowledge: Relevant understanding of government policy in a related sector and/or actuarial insurance experience is preferable.
  • Project Management and Leadership: Ability to manage projects develop new business opportunities and mentor junior staff. Demonstrates initiative a can-do attitude and proactiveness in trying new approaches.
  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Comfortable with complexity and flexible in a dynamic technology-driven environment. Commitment to staying up to date with market trends legislation and regulatory changes and contributing to business thought leadership.
