The Opportunity

BlueScope Distribution is looking for a Leading Hand / Dispatch (Day Shift) to join the team based in Townsville QLD. BlueScope Distribution is a single-source provider of product processing and service solutions in steel and aluminium product. The business supports customers in a variety of industries and works with them to help deliver projects on time and to specification. BlueScope Distribution supports its customers by helping them find the freedom to do what they do best.

As Leading Hand / Dispatch (Day Shift) you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Operations Supervisor in coordinating daily warehouse processing and dispatch activities. You will help guide the operations team allocate work and ensure products are processed stored and dispatched safely accurately and on time. You will also coordinate inbound and outbound stock movements and work closely with our sales team customers transport providers and drivers.

This role is a full-time role working Monday-Friday with typical working hours 7:00am - 3:30pm. Enjoy a competitive remuneration package including our profit share program (annual bonus). You will have access to various health and wellbeing initiatives including Employment Assistance Program Employee Real Deals and on-going learning support and training.

What Will You Do

 In this critical role you will be responsible for:

  • support the Operations Supervisor in coordinating daily activities allocating work and guiding the operations team
  • promote a strong safety culture including incident reporting load restraint compliance and safe work practices
  • coordinate inbound and outbound stock movements including receipting load allocation dispatch documentation and customer collections
  • safely process pick load unload and store products using manufacturing equipment forklifts and cranes
  • coordinate transport providers and work closely with customers drivers sales and operations teams
  • maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement service delivery and operational performance

More About You

 We are on the lookout for a dedicated team player who has the following:

  • experience influencing or leading a team within a warehouse manufacturing distribution or similar operational environment
  • a current forklift licence and demonstrated experience operating a forklift safely
  • crane operational competency or relevant experience
  • experience loading unloading processing and storing steel metal or similar products
  • knowledge and experience of MS Office SAP WMS or similar ERP systems
  • a strong safety focus attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
