Whats the roleAs Executive Manager Risk Management youll play a key role in helping Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) strengthen how risk is identified managed and improved across the division. Youll lead a team of risk professionals and work closely with senior leaders to ensure risk management practices are practical consistent and effective.
Reporting to the Head of Conduct Risk and Governance youll be accountable for divisional and Line of Business risk reviews support audit and assurance activities and drive innovative technological improvements that strengthen risk practices and reduce future risk. The role is highly collaborative giving you the opportunity to partner with senior leaders across WIB and Westpac Group. Youll also lead important programs as required by Westpacs Risk and Compliance Framework while coaching and developing a high-performing team that delivers meaningful outcomes for WIB.
Based in Sydney permanent role with working arrangements of 4 days in the office.

What do I needWere looking for someone who can bring strong people leadership sound judgement and the ability to effectively influence and challenge senior stakeholders to a complex and fast-moving environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong sense of ownership accountability and execution. The successful candidate will be expected to lead from the front roll up their sleeves and personally contribute to the delivery of key outcomes while coaching and developing others to succeed.
- Proven experience leading coaching and developing high-performing teams to deliver strategic risk and operational outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability with the ability to build trusted relationships and drive outcomes across all levels of the organisation.
- Demonstrated commitment to Westpacs decision-making principles applying both Should We and Can We to support sound judgement effective challenge and high standards of risk management.
- Strong operational excellence mindset driving efficiency simplification and quality outcomes through innovation continuous improvement and the adoption of technology and AI-enabled solutions.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex and high-priority deliverables balancing competing demands in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.
- Extensive experience embedding and strengthening risk management frameworks policies controls and governance practices across business operations.
- Strong capability in leading risk reviews root cause analysis thematic assessments and read-across activities to identify systemic issues and drive sustainable risk uplift.
- Ability to foster a culture of accountability continuous learning and innovation while leveraging emerging technologies automation and AI to improve risk management and business outcomes.
