Director – Gas Turbine Facility Development I Energy
Job Summary
Newly created leadership role as Director Gas Turbine Facility Development with AECOMs Australian Generation & Storage energy team working with an established team of Industry leaders and with technical subject matter expertise across multiple disciplines in Australia New Zealand (NZ) and globally.
This role provides a leadership opportunity working across this rapidly evolving market for thermal gas generation related projects with a key focus on gas turbine facility development in the Australian energy supply chain. You will have leadership responsibilities for establishing the technical approach for projects as well as delivering projects with clients focusing on delivery excellence across the entire project lifecycle. You will be leading AECOMs technical approach providing front end technical feasibility and concept design owners engineer support across complex thermal and related energy generation projects with varied client site engineering and delivery requirements.
You will have scope to make a real difference with the changing generation requirements across the portfolio of energy generation assets. You will also have plenty of variety working across very different project types including greenfield and brownfield related thermal gas projects with clients located throughout Australia all with unique and diverse generation approaches of varying scope and scale. Your ability to build positive working relationships as a trusted advisor with a broad range of stakeholders with clients and their technical teams with contractors and site teams as well as with OEMs will be important. You will also be balancing project delivery excellence supporting the delivery of complex innovative and rapidly evolving technical requirements for gas generation related projects with an understanding of Australian construction regulation and requirements across States as they apply to the design stages and Owners Engineer role during addition you will be leading across project stages from inception to concept and detailed design procurement construction and commissioning bringing your experience of end-to-end project delivery in the energy generation sector.
You will have a broad scope to make a lasting difference across Australias energy transition during a rapidly evolving energy landscape as our clients look to explore and solve gas generation supply and demand challenges. The fast-paced and innovative nature of projects will suit an engineering and technical leader looking to grow client relationships and make a difference across the Australian generation sector technical delivery and client-based role.
How you will make a difference
- Lead Gas Generation project delivery and technical requirements across Australia working closely with the Industry Directors to connect with clients and the market to originate project proposals acting as a trusted advisor.
- Lead and manage the technical workstreams for Gas Turbine facility development working with client technical teams as well as with AECOM engineering and design disciplines applying your project experience across process mechanical electrical and related engineering domains.
- Prepare functional and technical specifications for Gas Turbine facility projects and technical support for the procurement and evaluation of specific OEM gas Turbines and Balance of plant equipment.
- Leading project delivery either in an Owners Engineer Project or Design Management leadership capability or liaising with AECOMs project management teams ensuring scope timeframe and client budget requirements are met.
- Support business development activities including bid and proposal response processes working across AECOMs team of subject matter leaders across engineering disciplines.
This role has scope to be based in the main AECOM offices throughout Australia ideally Melbourne Sydney or Brisbane. Some domestic travel is required depending on client site and project requirements.
Qualifications :
To be successful in this Director Gas Turbine Facility Development role you will be a leader known across the gas turbine facility development and related generation markets in Australia. You will have current networks and a reputation for being a trusted advisor known for your ability to deliver complex and evolving energy generation and related projects working with different engineering disciplines.
You will have a strong track record of gas turbine or heavy industrial project delivery in the Australian market across all project stages being able to provide project advice as an Owners Engineer innately knowing what is critical for projects during delivery stages. Understanding and experience with Australian construction regulations and requirements will be important. Most likely your technical engineering abilities will be across the mechanical process electrical or related disciplines. You will also be known for your ability to connect with senior leaders to understand their technical commercial and project needs being able to provide solutions and proposals that meet these needs and support other AECOM market leaders.

What you will bring
- Deep knowledge of gas turbine facility development and related generation engineering requirements with 10 years (ideally more) with a focus on project delivery of complex greenfield and brownfield projects across all project stages.
- A good knowledge of the key engineering design operation and maintenance principles for gas turbine facilities.
- A background and experience of working in either / or a combination of consulting developer OEM integrator or EPC industries.
- Able to lead risk assessment discussions including identifying assessing and mitigating environmental and noise considerations OEM and procurement considerations (such as international supply chain and equipment delivery times).
- Demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing procurement documentation evaluating and normalising bids undertaking technical due diligence assessing departures and supporting commercial negotiations.
- Track record assuring quality and compliance including roles as Owners Engineer confirming what is built aligns with detailed design and contractual performance obligations in the Australian market.
- A track record and ability for building positive client relationships across senior leaders and with technical engineering project contractor OEMs and site teams.
- Current relationships and a network working with a broad range of generation and r related clients including developers energy generators private and public sector clients across Australia.
- Degree in Mechanical Electrical or related engineering discipline a postgraduate qualification such as being a Chartered Engineer or a masters degree in Energy is advantageous.
