DevOps Principal Engineer

Job Summary
The Principal DevOps Engineer plays a key role in building and operating Westpacs enterprise developer platforms taking technical ownership of GitHub Enterprise and driving secure scalable and automated CI/CD capabilities while shaping platform standards improving developer experience and mentoring engineers across the organisation.
- Own and operate the enterprise GitHub platform ensuring it is secure reliable and scalable for engineering teams
- Design and evolve standardised CI/CD patterns using GitHub Actions to enable fast repeatable and secure software delivery
- Build and manage GitHub Runner capabilities including environments lifecycle management upgrades and monitoring
- Develop platform automation using APIs and Infrastructure-as-Code to ensure consistent auditable configurations at scale
- Partner with Security Risk Architecture and Engineering teams while mentoring others and driving technical direction across the platform
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale DevOps or CI/CD platforms with strong hands-on expertise in GitHub Enterprise GitHub Actions and Runners and CD tools such as Harness Octopus Deploy and Argo CD
- Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code ideally Terraform or OpenTofu with Terraform Enterprise experience desirable.
- Strong experience with automation and tooling development in Python and with using APIs to manage platform configuration at scale.
- Strong understanding of container and runtime platforms including Docker Kubernetes and Helm.
- Comfortable operating across Linux and Windows environments with strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with observability and monitoring tooling.
- Desirable to have experience integrating SaaS platforms into regulated or risk-sensitive environments and improving developer experience through secure-by-default platform design.
- Passionate about modern engineering practices strong delivery discipline and creating low-friction paths that help teams move faster without compromising quality.
- Ideally you will be part of the wider technical community through mentoring design leadership or contribution to engineering standards and practices.
