Back-End Java Developer

As a Back-End Java Developer reporting to Sr. Director Software Engineering youll play a critical role in building and delivering a next-generation trade surveillance platform that powers compliance and market integrity for exchanges regulators and market participants worldwide.

Youll thrive in this position if youre resilient solutions-oriented and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced high-impact environment. A background in capital markets particularly trading clearing or surveillance will set you up for success from day one.

Key Responsibilities

• Design develop and optimize back-end Java solutions for a high-volume critically important trade surveillance platform.

• Translate complex system requirements and business processes into robust scalable software across multiple asset classes and data sources.

• Drive continuous integration practices and maintain performance standards using profiling and monitoring tools.

• Collaborate with multi-functional teams to contribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle from architecture through testing and deployment.

• Apply deep technical expertise to identify performance bottlenecks resolve issues efficiently and deliver innovative solutions that meet evolving product requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or a related field or equivalent practical experience.

• At least 3 years of software development experience with strong expertise in back-end Java development.

• Proven knowledge of core Java fundamentals including data structures algorithms and networking protocols.

• Proficiency with Linux environments and log analysis tools; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and performance profiling.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in capital markets fintech or a regulated industry particularly in trading clearing or surveillance functions.

• Experience working with high transaction volumes and multiple asset classes (equities fixed income commodities).

• Knowledge of AWS or other cloud platforms.

• Exposure to global teams and multi-functional collaboration in fast-paced delivery environments.

This position will be located in Sydney Australia and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 2 days a week in-office (may increase to 3 days in the future).

This is a permanent full-time role so candidates should have full working rights in Australia. To be eligible to apply you must have Australian citizenship or permanent residency status.
