Contract: 3 Months

Department Profile

The Department of Pharmacy provides world-class pharmaceutical care to a diverse patient base of women and children from both local and international backgrounds.

The department provides specialized pediatric and maternal healthcare in an empathetic and caring clinical environment. Services are provided across inpatient emergency and ambulatory settings within a 399-bed facility utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and technologies.

Job Summary

The Officer – Pharmacy Inventory Management is primarily responsible for coordinating all data flow professionally accurately and in a timely manner throughout the drug supply scope.

The post holder coordinates drug procurement operations and inventory management to ensure:

  • Critical drug availability
  • Accurate inventory
  • Optimized inventory turns
  • Minimized drug expirations

The role monitors and manages inventory on an ongoing basis to identify opportunities for improved inventory turns and reduced medication expirations.

Key Role Accountabilities
  • Identify and evaluate available and new technologies to assist in inventory management.
  • Coordinate inventory activities to resolve and manage backorders shortages and recalls and secure acceptable product alternatives when necessary.
  • Evaluate and adjust par levels in response to ongoing utilization shortages waste and critical needs.
  • Maintain responsibility for borrowing and loan systems from other hospitals.
  • Generate purchasing and inventory reports as requested by departmental leadership.
  • Participate in continuous quality assessment and improvement activities and medication safety initiatives.
  • Participate in various committees task forces and performance improvement teams as assigned.
  • Oversee medication and pharmaceutical supply purchasing processes including:
    • Procurement of medications
    • Procurement of pharmaceutical supplies
    • Working with hospital wholesalers and vendors
    • Coordinating with freight companies
    • Managing medication recalls
    • Conducting annual medication inventory
  • Prepare and communicate minutes of the Drug Supply Committee.
  • Examine research enter data file and gather related information necessary to process drug supply activities from the clinical pharmacy and/or procurement teams.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times including business-sensitive information personnel information and patient confidentiality.
  • Undertake any other duties applicable to the grade/post as required.

  • Work is normally performed in an office and hospital environment.

Qualifications Experience & Skills
Education
Essential
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy
Experience
Essential
  • 3 years of experience including advanced purchasing experience in healthcare and/or with a healthcare provider.
  • Exceptions to the experience requirement may be granted for eligible local/national candidates with a reduction of up to two (2) years.
Preferred
  • Drug supply experience within a hospital/healthcare organization in Qatar or GCC
  • Demonstrated experience with an ERP system particularly purchase and supply chain modules
